What can a dance physical therapist do for me?

A physical therapist is a movement expert that can help you achieve all sorts of goals for your body. These can range from recovering from an injury, post-operative care from a surgery, or returning to functional goals like climbing stairs. Physical therapists with dance expertise can also help you do things you’ve never done before, like get your switch leap or assess and prepare for pointe work. PTs can also work with you to help prevent injury and build you into a stronger, more confident dancer. You do not have to be injured or in pain to see a physical therapist. If you need help with movement, PT is right for you.

Dance Physical Therapy includes 2 branches:

  • Typically covered by insurance plans

  • For dancers who have an injury, pain, or medical conditions, including hypermobility/EDS and dysautonomia

  • Generally focuses on getting you back to what you you were doing before

  • Typically cash pay (may be FSA/HSA eligible)

  • For healthy dancers

  • Expert-level training for any movement-related dance goal (Want a higher arabesque? Better endurance? More explosive jumps? To finally get your splits? We can work on it!)

  • Pointe readiness assessments and pointe preparation

  • Injury prevention and cross-training programming

  • Generally focuses on helping you reach the next level
